foxermod - shine (letting go)

After releasing my first all-AE Modular EP in September 2023, I didn’t think I’d be able to write something else. I felt a little tapped out. But, I thought that I’d take up the challenge of arranging a song and recording vocals/writing lyrics. I’m glad I did; It’s something I haven’t done since early college, and I’m very happy with the results. I also feel I’ve grown a lot in how to record and mix my system a little faster through doing this song, too.

Overall, I relied pretty heavily on Kyaa’s Euclid Grid for triggering and 2Auto for nuances in fine pitch, filter cvs, and envelope decay times. Like last year’s submission, I created my own percussion sequences by using MS-20 (kick layering), Noise (kick layering, hats, claps), 2OSC (kick layering and clap), and processing them all through DRONX for added depth and tone. Pads were done with SOLINA. Synth leads were done with layering of 2OSC’s saw waves and SAWVOX. Bass was done the same way as the synth leads, just a lot more filter CV shaping coming from the 2ENV. The broken piano sound was done with the MS-20 through DRONX combined with a square wave from 2OSC. Most of the synth sounds were put through DRONX for shaping and tone, as well.

Once I was ready to record each sequenced patch, I used an external MIDI track to slave a click track from Logic Pro X to Euclid Grid so I could make sure everything is well in time for arranging and mixing. The song is layered material from 8 different patches.
