That was work. In this multi-track recording, every stem was made with a singular patch. I started with the bell sequence, obviously thinking of Klaus Schulze's Crystal Lake. Then I added a few more stems based on gut feeling. The main sequences come from hand painted sequences via DAW. The main sound source is WAVETABLE (bells, bass) via WAVEFOLDER, uSUBOSC and WASPFILTER (bells, bass), the percussions are SEQ16 with ALGODRONE via ENV/VCA, DIODE FILTER, PHASER. The intro / outro strings are paulstretched versions of the chimes. Originally there was no theme, as it seemed too much sound already. But after an additional day I wanted to add some kind of traditional berlin school improvisation and this became the most difficult part. I had a lot of problems patching a reliable and stable lead synth patch (maybe too much modules for my power supply) and there were strange gate problems (which suddenly went away, but I don't know why). Anyway, finally it worked, the lead is now FMOS triangle via the formerly known as KUZMIN FILTER, both driven by their own 2ENVelopes and played with my beloved Keith McMillen K-Board. No non-AE-sounds, all sounds came from the AEmodular, some FX from MULTIFX and DRONX, most FX from plugins, especially to mention Hy-Delay, Voxengo OldSkoolVerb on the sequences, Arturias Phaser Bi-Tron, Valhalla Supermassive and Audiomodern Panflow on the lead, plus Izotope stuff for ragged overall EQing and mastering. All recorded and mixed in Reaper. The image should show one of the sequence patches with the SLOTH modulated WAVETABLE.
It's hard to pick a track but the opening bits of Sunsmack let you know what you're in for and the rest of the EP doesn't let up at all. Fantastic all the way through. J Brandt
Saw the YouTube video for this one and had to pick it up ASAP. Hainbach and Look Mum No Computer are both stellar but this little collaboration is truly out of this world. osmotic
