The patch starts out with a bass drone. It consists of a triangle wave from the VCO into the Wavefolder, which is morphed by a slow LFO. It is then fed into the Kuzmin low-pass filter that has the frequency cut-off modified by another slow LFO. The arpeggio tone is a square wave from the 2OSC/d module that is shaped by a simple envelope from the 2ENV into the VCA. Pitch and sequence for both tones are controlled by an Arturia Keystep Pro via CV and Gate. Percussion sounds are sampled from various percussion patches created in my Vol. 3 submission. An Elektron Octatrack is used to sequence the kick, high hat, and what I call "thap" percussion samples. All sounds are enhanced by a shimmer reverb preset called "Angels" through a Mackie Mixer. Recording is straight into a Tascam DR-05x. Musically, this track is harmonically inspired by Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage. It is an experiment in both poly-rhythms and poly-meters of 4/4 and 7/8.

It's hard to pick a track but the opening bits of Sunsmack let you know what you're in for and the rest of the EP doesn't let up at all. Fantastic all the way through. J Brandt
