Patch notes:
The idea of the song was trying to utilize the lo-fi delay to try to mimic a shoe-gaze guitar throughout the song, while having a pulsewave bass driving the groove and main melody, with a single floor drum driving the beat. I also wanted a patch that was quite interactive, where i had the feeling of playing the synthesizer, not just programming it.
My set up is Starter Rack 2, with some CV information from a MicroFreak, and reverb from MiRack on Ipad (the Plateau Module from Valley). It was one-channel one-take.
For the nerds:
The main voice is the VCO module with pitch-information from Microfreak and triggered by the 2LFO. The 2ENV modulates the SVFilter and pulsewave on the VCO, as well as the the 2VCA.
The squeaky/screaming thing in the background is a clean, not modulated square wave from 2OSC into the Lo-Fi delay, no filtering going in here!
Wet signal and feedback all the way up, with the time CV modulated by the touch/pressure on the MicroFreak. Throughout the song, i'm switching bewteen lo and hi on the 2OSC and also patching/unpatching a slow LFO from 2LFO to the CV to make a rising/decending soundscapey thing (calling it a melody would be a stretch).
The kick is the second square wave out from the VCO into the WASP filter, with the filter and the VCA modulated by the 2ENV.
The kick is triggered every time the 8SEQ hits the first step, and throughout the song i'm self-patching it to create a time signature of 5/4, then changing it to 4/4 and lastly to 2/4.
Experimenting with creating a full song on the Starter Rack 2 was a lot of fun! It is indeed possible and the biggest constraint i find is that i tend to run out of patch-cables. Gonna get some more soon!
Microfreak is a great companion to the SR2. The touch/pressure CV really helps make the setup much more interactive.
