CRAANI - Earendel

I wanted to explore the doom & drone territory with a custom Fuzz Pedal and some delays & reverbs pedals. It’s a bit gritty and harsh / industrial sound.

Parts of the patch:
1) Kick
Envelope feed into CV MS20 filter.
MS20 feed into an AMP which is controlled by another envelope.
Kick is triggered using TRIQ164 module.

2) "Guitar" sound

Switch control to let the last CV value to the WaveTables IN:
• MIDI GateCV ->3VCSwitch 1A / 3VCSwitch IOT-> 4BUFFER -> S&H trigger
• Midi BusCV -> S&H (IN)
• S&H(OUT) -> WaveTables

Fuzzy Sound channel:
• WaveTables (preset4) Out->Mute channel1 -> VCA->StompI/O ->Inverted Cross Audio Drone Muff -> Mixer 4/4 (1)
• Envelope feed the VCA (gated by the same trigger signal connected to S&H)
• The same envelope is connected to the WaveTables WAVE MOD, to create some movement when the “Fuzzy Sound” is engaged (it affects to Clean Sound Channel too).

Clean Sound channel
• WaveTables Out-> VCA ->Mixer 4/4(2)
• The Envelope which controls the VCA of Fuzzy Sound is inverted with 2ATT/CV to control the VCA of Clean Sound. So when the Fuzzy Sound starts, the “Clean Sound is down”, and comes out when the Fuzzy Sound ends. This little effect helps to imitate the “feedback” of a pushed amp. Meanwhile the Fuzz pedal does more feedback to the signal when the Fuzzy Sound channel is muted by its VCA.

Blend Fuzzy and Clean channels:
• Mixer 4/4 (1) -> External Mixer Channel 1


3) “Looped” Arpeggio with delay
• SEQ64 -> 2OSC/D CV
• 2OSC/D Square-> Logic (in1)
• 2OSC(D) Triangle -> Logic(in2)
• SEQ64 gate to ENV -> VCA
Logic(NAND) -> VCA -> External Mixer Channel 2 **
**Wet by NUX Tape Echo Pedal

4) Crash cymbal
• Noise feed -> SV Filter (HP Output) -> VCA ->External Mixer Channel 5
• Modulators (Envelope section) into VCA, triggered by TRIQ64

5) Upper ambient synth
• Midi CV Bus-> 2OSC/D
• 2OSC/D triangle -> NYLE FILTER
• NYLE FILTER -> VCA
• Envelope triggered by MIDI BUS GATE -> VCA
• VCA -> 6 MUTE -> OBN Dark Star Pedal -> External Mixer Channel 4

6) VARIOUS FX controlled by DRONX:
• Channel 1: Drone38 SUMA (sync with SUM B)
• Channel 2: Drone38 SUMC
• Channel 3: GRAINS with Krachmacher firmware
• DRONE38 SUM B to GRAINS Input
• Modulators Random to GRAINS 1
• Modulators LFO to A
• Channel 4: MM33
• Logic XOR-> Delay (OUT) -> MM3 Channel 2
• Delay (WET) -> MM3 Channel 3
• MM3 (Y) -> QUADBOOST -> MM3 Channel 1
• MM3 ( Z) -> DRONX


• Channel 5: FM OSC with LFO
• 2OSC/D Triangle -> VCO (FREQ MOD)
• VCO Pulse -> Modulators (VCA) -> DRONX
• LFO -> Modulators(VCA Mod)


• Channel 6: NOISE CR OUT

SEQUENCE:
* Tempo sync signal is conected to AE modular from a Novation Cicuit Tracks. Signal is patched to MM-DIV, which trigger only the TRIQ164 module.
* TRIQ64 triggers the kick, the HitHat & controls the step change of SEQ8
* The sequence of the "guitar" distorted sound is from Novation Circuit.

Pedals used:
• Inverted Cross Audio Drone Muff
• OBN Dark Star
• NUX Tape Echo
• TC Electronic Trinity Reverb

Track is recorded live using a Mackie 1202 VLZ mixer, with TC Electronic Trinity Reverb inserted in some channels. It’s a single stereo track with a Zoom H2N stereo recorder.

Finally, only a little bit of compression, few eq and stereo enhancer applied with Reaper Daw.
